The sun peeked through the trees onto my face as I sat on my porch. Something so bright, beautiful and powerful must have been created by One more brilliant, exquisite and extreme!
God created light for our benefit. He gave us physical light in the sun, and He gave us spiritual light in the “Son” – His Son Jesus Christ who came to earth as the Light of the World.
Yet, we miss the impact of His coming? He shines bright and warm, and He lights our path. So often we do not see, feel, or follow. Our world is cloaked in a deceptive darkness so pervasive that we succumb to its numbing effect. We fall into spiritual slumber; impervious to the evil that surrounds us.
Jesus warned His disciples in Mark, chapter 8 to be careful of sin. They walked with God Himself, yet He pointed out that they had eyes that failed to see, and ears that failed to hear. As a remedy, Jesus urged them to remember what they had witnessed of Him in the past. He encouraged them to look back; to remember a time when they had seen the light. The flicker of light from one such memory will pierce and dispel darkness.
What do you remember of God’s goodness to you? How have you witnessed His impact in your life?
Sitting on my porch, I remembered what God had done for me. He has brought soothing warmth during frigid times, and He has rescued, touched and healed. He has been my strength in weakness, my teacher, my champion, and my greatest love.
Remember what He has done for you, and dispel the darkness… it takes just a flicker….
John 1:5 NLT The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.
